Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (i used ground chuck)
  • 1 clove garlic minced (i used minced garlic in a jar and put through a garlic press)
  • 1/4 cup stout beer (i found this at jungle jim's, they sold it by the bottle $2.00)
  • 2 tbsp hoison sauce (found in the chinese section)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1-2 heads of leafy lettuce (i used a bibb lettuce, romaine would
  • probably work well. i think iceberg might be harder to roll)

Directions:

  1. 1) Brown ground beef. Cook over med heat. Break up beef while cooking. Drain off fat. (I boil my meat)
  2. Add green onions and garlic. (You could use garlic powder, if that's what you have, but I probably
  3. Would not use garlic salt The hoison and soy sauce are both salty.)
  4. 2) Stir in water chestnuts, bell pepper, stout, hoison and soy sauce.cook, stirring occasionally until the red
  5. Pepper is crisp-tender & most of the liquid has evaporated.. Remove from heat.
  6. 3) Stir in cilantro. Spoon mixture over lettuce leaves. Wrap and tie off with green onion strips.
  7. Remember-this took both of us.
  8. They say this makes 8 servings.
  9. I was thinking, you could serve this as a main dish meal, just spooning mixture over the lettuce on a plate with corn, thinly sliced tomatoes and a slice of french bread and a couple of thinly sliced pieces of watermelon on the side.
  10. This would be a colorful presentation.
