The Best Oyster Dressing

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 slices bread
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/8 tsp basil
  • 1/8 tsp sage
  • 1/8 tsp thyme
  • 1/8 tsp marjoram

Directions:

  1. Melt butter in a skillet. Saute onions and celery until transparent.
  2. Soak the bread in water. Drain and squeeze water out of bread. Tear into small pieces and add to onion mixture.
  3. Add egg, parsley and oysters.
  4. Season with salt, pepper and spices.
  5. Simmer until oysters begin to curl.
  6. If the mixture is soggy, add bread crumbs; it should be very moist but there should be no excess liquid.
  7. Turn into a 2 qt casserole.
  8. Dot with butter.
  9. Bake 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
