Ingredients:

  • stiff porridge (the basis)
  • 750 ml water
  • 5 ml salt
  • 15 ml butter or margarine
  • 500 ml mealiemeal
  • filling
  • 25 ml butter or margarine
  • 25 ml oil
  • 1 can of whole tomatoes, chopped (410 g)
  • 5 ml salt
  • 5 ml aromat or simular spices
  • 250 ml milk
  • 250 ml cream

Directions:

  1. Porridge:
  2. Boil the water, salt and butter.
  3. Slowly pour in the mealiemeal, don't mix.
  4. Put a lid on and reduce heat.
  5. Leave 15 minutes.
  6. Stirr as if you were cutting something to mix everything together.
  7. Close the lid.
  8. Leave for about an hour.
  9. Filling:
  10. Sotee the onion in the oil.
  11. Stirr in the tomatoes, salt , mushrooms and aromat.
  12. Leave for about 5 minutes.
  13. Fry bacon untill crispy.
  14. Stirr the corn into the porridge.
  15. Spoon some of the porridge in a square deep dish. (5 cm thick)
  16. Put half of the tomato mix, the bacon and the cheese on top.
  17. Layer with porridge, the tomato mix, bacon and end with cheese.
  18. Mix the milk and cream together.
  19. Pour over.
  20. Bake for an hour at 160 degrees.
  21. Serve hot.
