Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp butter or margarine
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • pinch of pepper
  • 2 whole cloves

Directions:

  1. Cook beans, covered, in a small amount of boiling salted water 20 minutes. Drain.
  2. Saute onion in butter in a medium saucepan until tender. Add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Combine remaining ingredients; add to onion mixture, stirring until smooth. Add beans; cover and cook over low heat 15 minutes or until beans are tender. Discard cloves and bay leaf.
