Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Soak lentils overnight if required.
  2. To prepare dahl: put lentils in pan with 600ml/2 1/2 cups water and ginger, garlic, turmeric, chillies and salt.
  3. Bring to boil and cook for about 30mins - or until lentils soft, then mash with back of spoon until soupy (I don't bother!)
  4. To prepare tarka: heat oil and fry onion, onion seeds and mustard seeds, chilli and tomatoes for 2mins (or longer if you are me and forget)
  5. Add the tarka to the dhal...garnish with coriander and HEY PRESTO!....Enjoy x
