I tasty two-part dahl. Ingredients:
115g/half cup of red lentils (wot i use) or chana dhal or yellow split peas |
1tsp grated fresh root ginger |
1tsp crushed garlic |
1/4 tsp turmeric |
2 fresh green chillies, chopped (i never put this much in - but i am a chilli scaredy-cat) |
1 1/2 tsp salt (yep - thats what the recipe says... but it loads... would just go for 1/4 tsp myself |
1 onion sliced |
1/2 tsp mixed mustard and onion seeds |
4 dried red chilies (same comment as above) |
1 tomato sliced |
Directions:
1. Soak lentils overnight if required. 2. To prepare dahl: put lentils in pan with 600ml/2 1/2 cups water and ginger, garlic, turmeric, chillies and salt. 3. Bring to boil and cook for about 30mins - or until lentils soft, then mash with back of spoon until soupy (I don't bother!) 4. To prepare tarka: heat oil and fry onion, onion seeds and mustard seeds, chilli and tomatoes for 2mins (or longer if you are me and forget) 5. Add the tarka to the dhal...garnish with coriander and HEY PRESTO!....Enjoy x |
