Ohio River Bottom Sludge Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 3 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 cups boiling water

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Sift the dry ingredients from the first list together.
  3. Add the liquid items from the first list and blend well.
  4. Pour the mixture in the an 8-inch square greased glass baking dish (a 9x7 pan works just as well).
  5. Combine ingredients from the second list and sprinkle over the cake mixture.
  6. Pour the boiling water over everything but do not stir!
  7. Bake for 40 minutes.
  8. A fudgy crust will form on top and a thick sauce forms underneath.
  9. Let it stand for 15 minutes before serving.
  10. Goes great with some ice cream on the side!
