Make Ahead Oven Baked French Toast

Ingredients:

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk or 1/2 cup cream
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp orange juice
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 6 slices of thick stale bread

Directions:

  1. In large, shallow dish, combine egg, cream, brown sugar, orange juice, and spices.
  2. Place bread in mixture; leave 5 minutes. Turn bread over; leave 5-10 minutes until all liquid is absorbed.
  3. (If preparing ahead of time, cover and refrigerate overnight.)
  4. Transfer bread to non-stick cookie sheet or cookie sheet lined with buttered foil.
  5. Bake at 375° F (190° C) for 10 minutes.
  6. Turn carefully and bake 10-15 minutes longer, or until puffed and golden.
  7. Drizzle with warmed syrup, or sift icing sugar on top, and serve with fresh fruit.
