  1. In a small bowl, combine the flour and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Press into a greased 9-in. square baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25-28 minutes or until golden brown.
  3. In a small bowl, beat the eggs, brown sugar and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt and ginger; stir into egg mixture just until moistened. Gently stir in pears and coconut.
  4. Spread over warm crust. Bake 20-23 minutes longer or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack. Cut into bars. .
