Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cornmeal
  • 2 cups entire wheat flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1 pint hot water
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water

Directions:

  1. Scald the cornmeal with the pint of hot water, then mix in the two cups of entire wheat foour, the molasses and the salt, adding the yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup of lukewarm water. Lastly add the soda, also dissolve in 1/4 cup lukewarm water. Pour this batter into greased molds, filling each a little over half, and let them rise until they are nearly full.
  2. Then put the molds into a pot of rapidly boiling water. Boil three hours, take them out and bake them for 1/2 hour.
