This is from an old Pillsbury cookbook that is falling apart. I don't have the front cover and part of the pages are torn. So, I'm going to share these before the book is completely destroyed. This recipe does not say how many loaves it makes - I guessed. Read more . Let me know if you try it and it is different - thanks! Ingredients:
2 cups cornmeal |
2 cups entire wheat flour |
1 tsp salt |
1 tsp soda |
1 pint hot water |
1 cup molasses |
1/2 cake of yeast |
1/2 cup lukewarm water |
Directions:
1. Scald the cornmeal with the pint of hot water, then mix in the two cups of entire wheat foour, the molasses and the salt, adding the yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup of lukewarm water. Lastly add the soda, also dissolve in 1/4 cup lukewarm water. Pour this batter into greased molds, filling each a little over half, and let them rise until they are nearly full. 2. Then put the molds into a pot of rapidly boiling water. Boil three hours, take them out and bake them for 1/2 hour. |
