Ingredients:

  • crust
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 tbsp water
  • filling
  • 1-1/2 squares of unsweetened chocolate
  • 1-1/2 cups water
  • 2/3 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1-1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup flour ,sifted
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening , soften
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • topping
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. Make the crust by mixing the flour,salt and baking powder with the shortening.Cut in the water,tossing with fork.Place in baking dish.
  2. Make filling by melting chocolate in the water and sugar.
  3. Bring sauce to boil,stirring constantly.
  4. Add butter and vanilla.
  5. Make the batter by mixing the flour,sugar,baking powder and salt.
  6. Add shortening,milk and vanilla.
  7. Beat,add egg,beat batter about 2 minutes longer.
  8. Pour batter over crust,then pour chocolate sauce over batter layer,slowly.
  9. Sprinkle with 1 Cup of chopped Walnuts.
  10. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 55 to 60 minutes.
  11. Cool.
  12. Beat the topping ingredients together until fluffly.
  13. Top the pie with the whipped topping and sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
