Old Fashioned Evaporated Milk Caramels

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 cups white karo
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Boil sugar,salt and corn syrup to 245 degrees.
  2. Stir occasionally.
  3. Add butter and evaporated milk so gradually that the mixture does not stop boiling.
  4. STIR CONSTANTLY!
  5. Cook rapidly to 240 degrees, being careful not to scorch.
  6. Add vanilla and nuts.
  7. Pour into greased pan.
  8. Cool before cutting.
  9. Cut with heavy,sharp knife with saw-life motion.
