Apple Butter - Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

  • 12 lbs apples
  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves

Directions:

  1. Wash, core, slice apples.
  2. Cook in a little cider juice until soft.
  3. Press through food mill
  4. Add rest of cider and bring to a boil.
  5. Add sugar and spices, stir occasionally
  6. Simmer several hours until thick [heaps in a spoon].
  7. Should be a dark brown color.
  8. Can cook in a nesco electric slow cooker for 24 hours.
  9. Freeze or process 10 minutes in a hot water bath.
