Vera's Apple Pie in a Jar

Ingredients:

  • 4 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 10 cups water
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice

Directions:

  1. Combine everything but the apples and lemon juice.
  2. Cook until thick and bubbly.
  3. Add 3 tbs lemon juice.
  4. Pack apple slices tightly into quart jars and cover with syrup.
  5. Cold pack for 20 minutes to preserve or give to friends to use up within 2 weeks.
