  1. Beat butter and shortening at medium speed of an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; beat well. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to butter mixture; beat until blended. Cover and chill dough at least 2 hours.
