Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F. Bake biscuits: 10-12 minutes, until golden brown on top.
  2. -coat a baking sheet with nonstick spray
  3. -warm the water in a small saucepan to 105 to 115 F
  4. -stir in 1t of the sugar. Add the yeast and stir until dissolved. Allow the yeast to proof.
  5. -sift the flour, remaining 1/3c of the sugar, the baking powder, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl.
  6. -cut in the shortening until the mixture looks like coarse cumbs.
  7. -add the buttermilk and the yeast mixture and stir until well mixed.
  8. -turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead 3 or 4 times.
  9. -roll the dough out until 1/2 inch thick, cut into rounds with 2 inch cookie cutter.
  10. -place on the cookie sheet, cover with towell, and let rise until doubled in volume, about 45 minutes.
