Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp clove
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups walnuts, chopped

Directions:

  1. Beat egg, add melted shortening, molasses and baking soda which has been dissolved in water. Combine sifted dry ingredients, dates and walnuts. Pour in wet ingredients. Fill greased mold, cover tightly, and steam 1 1/2 hours. Serve hot. (Can be served with your favorite sauce).
