Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 5 - 8 tbsp water
  • filling
  • 3 cups diced apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Directions:

  1. PASTRY*******************
  2. SIFT FLOUR WITH SALT
  3. CUT IN SHORTENING
  4. ADD ENOUGH WATER TO MAKE ROLLABLE PASTRY
  5. ROLL PASTRY INTO A 12X14 INCH RECTANGLE
  6. FILLING***************************************************
  7. COMBINE APPLES, BROWN SUGAR, CINNAMON & NUTMEG, LEMON JUICE & BUTTER.
  8. SPREAD EVENLY OVER PASTRY
  9. ROLL UP PASTRY(14 INCH SIDE)LIKE JELLY ROLL
  10. PINCH EDGES TOGETHER TO SEAL
  11. CUT 3 SLITS IN TOP CRUST, OR PUNCH DESIGN OF SMALL HOLES WITH AN ICE PICK.
  12. PLACE ON GREASED JELLY-ROLL PAN
  13. BAKE AT 425 DEGREES F FOR ABOUT 40 MINUTES, OR UNTIL TENDER.
  14. SERVE WARM WITH HEAVY CREAM OR HOMEMADE ICE CREAM
  15. SERVES 6
