Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream the shortening and sugar.
  3. Add the egg.
  4. Mix the dry ingredients together in another bowl and then add to the wet, mixing well.
  5. Stir in the apples and nuts last.
  6. The dough will be stiff.
  7. Grease an 8x8 baking pan, then spread dough in the pan.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes.
  9. Cool before cutting into squares.
