Ingredients:

  • 5 tbsp butter or 5 tbsp margarine, softened
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix 1 tablespoon butter, brown sugar and hot water in the bottom of a 9-by-13-inch baking pan.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the remaining butter and sugar.
  4. Add flour and baking powder alternately with milk.
  5. Pour over brown sugar mixture in baking dish.
  6. Bake 30 minutes.
