Pickled Hot Dogs or Sausages

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups water
  • 3 cups vinegar
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp alum
  • 1 tsp coriander
  • 1 dash turmeric
  • 20 hot dogs , cut into 1 to 2 inch pieces

Directions:

  1. Boil all ingredients (including hot dogs) together.
  2. Put in jar and refrigerate overnight.
  3. Store in refrigerator.
  4. Can also use smoked sausages, deer sausages, ring bologna, and other types of pre-cooked smoked meats.
  5. Also suitable for pickled eggs.
  6. Serve chunks of pickled hot dogs or sausage with saltine crackers for a snack.
