Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup very strong coffee (or 1/2 cup. water mixed
  • confectioners' sugar or icing , of your choice

Directions:

  1. Grease a 9x13 pan and preheat oven to 350F Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy Add beaten egg, coffee/water and molasses.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Sift together dry ingredients and add to wet.
  4. Mix well Pour into pan and bake 25 minutes.
  5. While still warm sprinkle w/ confectionary sugar or glace with a thin icing.
