Ingredients:

  • 500 g(4 cups) flour
  • 15 ml(3tsps) fennel seeds
  • 60 ml sugar
  • 30 g butter
  • 30 ml oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 150ml lukewarm water
  • 200mllukewarm milk

Directions:

  1. Cream butter and sugar add oil
  2. Add eggs and fennel and whisk well add water and milk and mix well
  3. Sift in flour and stir in the yeast to form a soft dough
  4. Knead dough well for approx 10 mins until elastic
  5. Leave to rise in warm draft-free area in an oiled dish covered with clingwrap until double in size
  6. Knead risen dough and divide into 6 balls about 3cms high
  7. Place balls next to each other in a round baking tray
  8. Leave to rise again
  9. Brush with melted butter and decorate with poppy/sesame seeds
  10. Bake180 degrees centigrade for 20-30 mins or until golden brown and hollow sound when tapped
