Country Bread With Roasted Walnuts

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups ordinary wheat flour
  • 5 oz walnuts

Directions:

  1. Heat the oven to 325 F/ 175 degrees C.
  2. Mix the walnuts with 1 tbsp of the oil and roast lightly in the oven for about 5 minutes.
  3. Let cool and chop them coarsely.
  4. Dissolve the yeast in the water (if using dry yeast, follow instructions).
  5. Add the salt, oil, graham, nuts, and most of the flour.
  6. Knead vigorously for five minutes.
  7. Let rise to double size (about one hour).
  8. Heat the oven to 450 F/ 230 degrees C.
  9. Knead and make one loaf.
  10. Place on a tray and let rise again for 30 minutes.
  11. Make a few cuts in the loaf with a razorblade.
  12. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes.
  13. Reduce heat to 350 F/180 degrees C and bake for another 35 minutes.
  14. Let cool uncovered.
