Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, and shortening at low speed until moistened.
  4. Beat for 2 minutes at medium speed.
  5. Add vanilla and egg whites; continue beating an additional 2 minutes.
  6. Pour into prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes.
