Rogene's Bread Pudding With Vanilla Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 gallon milk
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp vanilla
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup milk , plus
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 4 -5 tbsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. To make bread pudding: mix everything but raisins. Set aside.
  2. In a 9x13 inch baking dish layer bread halfway up. Pour mixture over. Sprinkle raisins on top. Bake at 350 degrees for approx 45-60 minutes, checking often for a knife to come out clean.
  3. To make sauce: Heat all ingredients except the vanilla over medium heat, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  4. Spoon yourself out some bread pudding and top it off with the sauce and some cool whip.
