Directions:

  1. Combine flour, baking powder and salt.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Grease and flour a 9-inch square baking pan and preheat oven to 350°F Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Stir in eggs and vanilla until well blended.
  5. Stir in the flour mixture.
  6. Add the peel, dates, and nuts.
  7. Put batter in baking dish, sprinkle with 1/2 tablespoons sugar, and bake until golden brown, 25-30 minutes.
  8. Cool in pan on a rack.
  9. Cut in squares while still warm.
