Betty Dugdale's Old Boston Ice Box Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups flour ( presifted)
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Sift flour, soda and salt together.
  2. Mix butter and egg together.
  3. Add sugars and dry ingredients, then vanilla.
  4. When well mixed, divide into 3 balls and roll each into a long roll in waxed paper.
  5. Allow to harden in refrigerator.
  6. Roll again and place on fresh waxed paper.
  7. They may be frozen and used as needed, or sliced 1/8 thick.
  8. Decorate with nuts, chocolate bits, cinnamon sugar or candied ginger (this is my favorite topping).
  9. Bake at 350F for 10 minute.
