  1. Peel, core and thinly slice the apples. (As I said above, I used granny smith apples but you may want to try something sweeter.) Place the apples in a large bowl and sprinkle them with the cinnamon, flour and vanilla. Stir the apples to make sure they are well coated. Line a pie dish with crust. Pour in the apples. Feel free to stack them high - it makes a beautiful pie that way! Top the apples with butter and then the second layer of crust. Press the edges of the crust together and cut slits in the top of the pie. If desired, you can sprinkle the top with added cinnamon. Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes or until apples are tender. It may not bubble as it will not be as wet as a traditional apple pie but the apples should become soft and the top crust should be golden brown. Enjoy!
