Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 cups flour
  • 5 tbsp water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar

Directions:

  1. Wash apples and cut into 1/8 slices.
  2. Cover and simmer in a medium sauce pan for 10 minutes with 2 tbsp of water over medium heat.
  3. Dissolve 1 tsp of cornstarch with 1 tbsp of water.
  4. Add the cornstarch mixture to the apple slices with the sugar and cinnamon. Stir over heat for 5 more minutes, until sugar is dissolved and the liquid is thickened and bubbly. Set aside.
  5. For the crust, in a large bowl mix together flour and salt.
  6. Cut in the butter, mixing well with a fork until crumbs form (don't use a spoon, it won't turn out as well).
  7. Add the water, one tbsp at a time until the crumbs start forming together.
  8. Turn ontil a lightly floured surface and shape the dough into two balls. Roll each ball out into a circle, about 10-12 inches.
  9. Press one of the circles into a 9 inch pie pan, add the filling, and place the second dough circle on top, pinching and trimming the edges to seal.
  10. Cut 2-4 slits around the middle of the pie to vent, and sprinkle the sugar on top to garnish. Bake in a preheated oven at 325°F for 45 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.
