Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 tsp shortening
  • 4 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 1/2-2 tsp cinnamon (or more )
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup raisins

Directions:

  1. Heat milk.
  2. Add shortening, sugar and salt.
  3. Dissolve yeast in 2 tbsp warm water.
  4. Add to mixture.
  5. Add 2 cups flour and beat until smooth, beat in cinnamon.
  6. Cover and let rise in a warm place 1 hour.
  7. Add raisins and enough flour to make a firm dough.
  8. Knead until smooth and elastic to touch.
  9. Cover and set in a warmplace to rise until double in bulk.
  10. Knead again.
  11. Form into loaf and put in greased baking pan.
  12. Cover and set in warm place to rise until double in bulk.
  13. Bake in a 350 oven for 50-60 min.
  14. Optional-rather than mix in the cinnamon you can take the raisins, 1/4 cup each brown sugar and butter and the cinnamon and make a paste.
  15. After the first rising and kneading pat out your dough and spread this mixture on it.
  16. Roll jelly roll fashion and continue on with the recipe.
  17. This can be iced with powdered sugar mixed with the smalest amount of milk.
