Old Fashioned Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp butter or 3 tbsp margarine
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 (7 oz) package elbow macaroni

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350°F.
  2. Melt butter in large saucepan on low heat, add flour and salt, mix well. Cook appx. 2 minutes or until bubbly.
  3. Gradually add milk, stirring until well blended. Stirring constantly, cook on medium heat until it boils and the mixture starts to thicken.
  4. Reduce heat to low and let simmer until thickened, about 3-5 mintues.
  5. Add 1-1/2 cups of the cheese, cook until melted, stirring constantly.
  6. Add macaroni and mix lightly.
  7. Put into 1-1/2 quart casserole dish, sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup cheese.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes.
