Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter or 1 cup margarine
  • 3 tbsp butter or 3 tbsp margarine
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar, divided
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 3/4 tsp ground cloves

Directions:

  1. In large mixing bowl, cream butter and 1 cup sugar.
  2. Blend in molasses and egg.
  3. Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves; add to creamed mixture.
  4. Mix until well blended.
  5. Shape dough into 1 1/4 inch balls.
  6. Roll balls in remaining sugar.
  7. Place on greased cookie sheets.
  8. Press flat with a fork.
  9. Bake at 350 degrees about 10-12 minutes or until set.
