Grammie Bea's Mincemeat Applesauce Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 (9 oz) package dry mincemeat
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups flour , sifted
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar , firmly packed
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1/2 cup walnuts

Directions:

  1. Break mince meat into pieces, and put in a small sauce pan.
  2. Add the water.
  3. Place over med. heat, and stir lumps, until broken.
  4. Boil briskly for 3 mins., until almost dry, and let cool.
  5. Sift flour, salt, and soda.
  6. Cream Crisco, and add sugar gradually, beating until fluffy.
  7. Beat in egg.
  8. Stir in mince meat.
  9. Add dry ingredients with cooled apple.
  10. Sauce.
  11. Stir in nuts.
  12. Bake in a greased and floured 9x13 pan, in a 350 oven for 30-40 mins., checking every 5 minutes after 30 mins., until a toothpick comes.
  13. Out clean when inserted into the center of the cake.
