Directions:

  1. Woolworth's Frito Pie
  2. Slices bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces
  3. Clove garlic, crushed
  4. Medium onion, chopped
  5. Pound ground chuck
  6. Teaspoon salt (more or less to taste)
  7. Tablespoons chili powder
  8. /2 teaspoon ground cumin
  9. /3 cup tomato paste
  10. /2 cup water (more if necessary)
  11. Cup canned pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  12. Cups Fritos corn chips
  13. /2 pound Cheddar or Monterey jack, shredded
  14. Optional: chopped onion and diced fresh jalapenos for garnish
  15. Cook bacon in heavy skillet until fat is rendered. Add onion and
  16. Garlic and cook until onion is softened.
  17. Add ground chuck and cook over medium high heat, stirring and
  18. Breaking up lumps, until browned, 3 to 4 minutes. Pour off excess
  19. Fat and add salt, chili powder, cumin, and tomato paste.
  20. Slowly add water and simmer 10 min, adding more water if necessary.
  21. Add beans until heated through.
  22. Divide corn chips among individual wide shallow bowls, top with
  23. Chili. Sprinkle cheese on top.
  24. Garnish with onion and jalapeno if desired
