  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Sift together flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder and set aside; Cream together shortening, brown sugar and white sugar until light and fluffy; Beat in eggs, vanilla and coconut. Add sifted ingredients and mix well; Stir in oatmeal, chocolate chips and nuts, Mix thoroughly.
  3. Drop by teaspoonful onto ungreased baking sheets; Bake for 8-12 minutes until golden brown.
