Mom's Soft Ginger Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening or 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp clove

Directions:

  1. Cream the sugar and shortening or butter together.
  2. Add in the molasses and egg and beat until well blended.
  3. Separately, mix together the dry ingredients.
  4. Add the flour mixture slowly into the wet ingredients.
  5. Use a teaspoon to drop small balls on greasing baking sheets.
  6. Dip a fork in flour and lightly press down on the balls.
  7. Bake at 375 F or 190 C for 6-8 minutes, depending on the size of the cookies.
