Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk

Directions:

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; stir well. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle milk evenly over flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.
  2. Turn dough out onto a floured surface; knead 10 to 12 times.
  3. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness; cut with a 1 1/2-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on greased baking sheets. Bake at 450° for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
