Ingredients:

  • 3/4-1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cups applesauce
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tbsp wheat germ (optional)
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2-1 cup dried fruit
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar.
  2. Add the egg and applesauce; mix well.
  3. Combine the flour, wheat germ, baking soda, cinnamon, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cloves.
  4. Stir into creamed mixture just until moistened.
  5. Fold in dried fruit and nuts.
  6. Pour into a greased 8 inch x 4 inch loaf pan.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 60 to 65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
