Grandma Patton's Date Filled Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups dates (cut up )
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup nuts
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. Filling:.
  2. Add first three ingredients to a pot.
  3. Cook filling until thick, then add nuts & cool.
  4. Cookie:.
  5. Cream margarine and sugar. Mix in eggs.
  6. Mix dry ingredients together separately. Mix liquid ingredients together separately.
  7. To margarine mixture, alternate adding dry and liquid mixtures.
  8. Drop by teaspoonfulls then flour your spoon and make a small well. Put a dab of filling on each. Then cover with a dab of dough.
  9. Bake until just done.
