Grandma Best's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup butter or 2/3 cup margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Mix thoroughly shortening, butter and sugars, salt, eggs and vanilla.
  3. Blend in remaining ingredients.
  4. Bake 8- 10 minutes until golden brown. Do not overbake.
  5. *if using self rising flour, omit baking soda and salt.
  6. (For a softer, rounder cookie, add additional 1/2 cup flour).
