Old Fashioned Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cake flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder (scant)
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 6 tsp butter, room temperature (use the real thing--it tastes better)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

Directions:

  1. Mix together the flours, baking powder, salt and sugar
  2. Cut in the butter to pea size. Use fork or pastry cutter)
  3. Mix buttermilk and soda together and let it rest until it lightly foams
  4. Mix together all ingredients quickly. Do not over mix
  5. Spoon a section out of the bowl and shape with your hands
  6. Place in a greased cast iron skillet or sheet pan
  7. Place in preheated oven at 375 F and bake for 20 min. (check at 15)
  8. *The number of biscuits depends on the size you make them
