Ingredients:

  • for the topping
  • 1 kg cherries
  • 150 g butter
  • 200 g flour
  • 120 g sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla or 1 tsp cinnamon
  • for the dough
  • 100 g sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 375 g flour
  • 100 ml milk

Directions:

  1. Pit cherries and set aside
  2. For the streusal topping : heat the butter in a small saucepan until it melts.
  3. Add Flour, sugar and vanilla, mix salt and add to the melted butter, mix well.
  4. Set aside and let cool
  5. Preheat the oven to 200 ° C
  6. For the dough: mix butter and sugar well with an electric mixer
  7. Add eggs separately one at a time and then add Salt.
  8. Mix flour with baking powder adding alternately with the milk and stir in the softened butter .
  9. The dough will be somewhat thick and will drop slowly from a spoon
  10. Use a spatula dipped in water to spread out dough evenly in the pan ( large square baking pan )
  11. Place on Cherries evenly over the dough and spread the streusal crumbs over the dough
  12. Bake in middle oven rack about 20-30 and risen, browned and tested done
  13. When cool, cut into pieces and enjoy.
  14. Serve with ice cream, clotted or whipped cream if desired
