Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp clove
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup raisins or 1 cup nuts (optional)

Directions:

  1. Sift together flour, salt and spices.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Combine applesauce and soda.
  4. Set aside.
  5. Mix shortening with sugar and egg until light and fluffy.
  6. Mix in flour mixture alternately with applesauce.
  7. Fold in oats and raisins and nuts if used.
  8. Drop by teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto a greased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake at 375 degrees about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
