dried split peas (i used green), red lentil (can use yellow or brown ones ), orzo pasta (i used multi-colored orzo), low-sodium beef bouillon powder, pearl barley, dried chopped onions, ground cumin, chili powder, ground black pepper, granulated sugar or 1/2 tsp splenda granular (not packets), lean ground beef or 8 oz venison or 8 oz bulk sausage, tomatoes with green chilies (i used rotel brand) or 1 (10 oz) can canned, water, chili beans (i used bush s) (optional)
