Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Combine molasses and shortening in a saucepan
  2. Bring to boil over medium high heat
  3. Cool
  4. Sift dry ingredients together in bowl
  5. Add cooled molasses mixture to dry ingredients
  6. Mix well
  7. Add choice either lemon or orange rind
  8. Mix well, and cover
  9. Chill dough for 2 hours
  10. On floured board roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness
  11. Cut out gingerbread men (may use small cutters or larger cutters)
  12. Place 1/2 inch apart on *greased* cookie sheet
  13. Bake at 350 degrees for about 8-10 minutes
  14. NOTE: This will make about 12 Gingerbread Men, depending on the size of the cutter. Can ice them and give them eyes, buttons, etc. May place raisins for eyes, and for buttons down front. Children love to make these.
