Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup cocoa
  • 2 egg yolks , plus
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 -4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 4 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Cream sugar and shortening in a bowl.
  3. Add the eggs and mix together.
  4. Sift dry ingredients. Then add to creamed mix.
  5. Alternate the milk to the batter.
  6. The batter will be stiff. If to thin add more flour.
  7. Drop by rounded tablespoon fulls on greased cookie sheets.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and cool completely.
  10. While cookies are cooling prepare the filling.
  11. Mix together the shortening and vanilla till blended.
  12. Then add the milk and powdered sugar to the shortening and vanilla mix and beat until smooth.
  13. Spread filling on the cookies when they have cooled.
  14. Makes 5 dozen.
