1. Drain peaches, reserving syrup.
2. Combine peach syrup, sugar, vinegar, cinnamon sticks, and cloves in a saucepan; bring to boiling; lower heat and simmer 10 minutes. Pour hot syrup over peach halves and let cool.
3. Chill thoroughly before serving.
4. Store in refrigerator.
5. Yield: about 4 pints.
