  • 1 1/2 lbs flank steaks or 1 1/2 lbs chicken
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup red wine

  • 1 Trim fat from steak.
  • 2 Score steak on both sides in 1 1/2 inch squares.
  • 3 Place steak or chicken in large shallow dish or zip-top heavy duty plastic bag.
  • 4 Combine oil and remaining ingredients, stirring well.
  • 5 Pour over steak.
  • 6 Cover or seal; marinate in refrigerator 8 hours, turning occasionally.
  • 7 Drain steak or chicken, reserving marinade.
  • 8 Grill, covered, over medium coals 6-8 minutes on each side or to desired doneness, basting twice with marinade.
  • 9 To serve, slice steak across the grain into thin slices.
